Go Cash Yourself

The other day I was buying persimmons in the Bronx and had to walk away empty handed because they don’t accept credit cards. ARGH.

There is a staggering number of restaurants, mini marts and etc etc that don’t accept credit cards. This leaves people:

  • Embarassed when they don’t have cash
  • Ripped off from cash machine charges
  • Totally inconvenienced

If taxi cabs are now all equipped with this simple modern day technology, then why can’t all shops accept credit cards? Accepting just cash is SO 1.0.

Although conference calls are generally a waste of everyone’s time, in theory, one should be able to have them from time to time. Especially if you are outsourcing work to Hawaii (SO 2.0).

So why does the conferencing technology suck so much? The Hang Ups…Extra Sounds…No Sound..Weird Sound…Muffled Sounds…Echoes? There is nothing more pointless and pathetic as having 20 people in the room trying to have a conversation with another team and not being able to, due to technology.

Conferencing technology is SO 1.0.

Brush My Choices

Have you shopped for toothpaste lately? Did you notice like 100 choices of toothpaste from 2 brands?

It’s like a twisted branding joke!!

How is a normal human being supposed to make choice between a dozen of nearly identical looking toothpaste boxes? Are Colgate and Crest publicly fighting for aisle space? I spent about 5 mins puzzling over flouride, flavor and price. Grabbed the first box I saw and walked out.

Toothpaste companies are SO 1.0.

Give Me Some Sugar

An international visitor in US for the first time may get excited by our candy aisle. 3 Musketeers….Jelly Belly’sMarshmallows. OH MY. (I know I was excited when I was 10).

The truth is our candy aisles have gone stale…how many new candy companies launched in the past 10 years?

If you take a walk to Chinatown in NY (or wheverer) you will find dozens and dozens of candy variety. In fact, every time I go to Chinatown, I pick up 3-4 foreign candy packages to experience something new. Our candy aisles are a parallel to McDonalds…same stuff every day, every year.lollipops

    Alarm Go Away

noisynightIf you live in the city, chances are the LOUD car-alarm-system has become somewhat of a background noise to you. When it goes off, you hardly even pay attention anymore…unless it’s in the middle of the night… ARGH.

The loud and obnoxious sound goes on and on and on…while the car owner is sound asleep in his sound proof apartment.

Can’t a smarter alarm system be invented for sleeps sake?

Car Alarm Systems are SO 1.0

    You’re Captcha’d

How many captcha’s do you think you’ve entered in your life time? How many of those were EASY to understand?

    Exactly..

Captcha’s were invented to fight spammers but allow good intentioned humans to easily discern the puzzle..so why do they make it so difficult for us? Now they are even doing 2 words, if one wasn’t bad enough. And sound? Has anyone EVER played the sound button on Captcha? It’s like a bad joke. I don’t have time to sit there and play their crazy mind  games (literally!).

Captcha’s are SO 1.0 and the dumb asses who make them. (PS: time thiefs)

    Two at once..

Waiting for the bus when you are a trying to get somewhere truly sucks…especially if it’s cold out.

So how come when the bus finally comes, they come in twos? Can’t the transportation folks time them right….it’s not like it’s rocket science.  And while we are on the topic…can’t they put those nice glass covers at every stop. It truly makes the wait so much better in the rain.

    Bus Schedule is SO 1.0.

    Time Waster #1

Of all the stupid time wasters that exist in the world (and OH there are so many) this one really gets me….

Why do I have to enter my email address twice on most online forms?

I KNOW! Some marketing idiot out there got a brilliant idea in 1996 that if you make the average dumb web user enter it twice, there will be a lower incidence of typos. So why not just make us enter everything twice? Let’s just enter our address in twice, our phone number, etc etc.

Each time I have to enter my email address twice, I silently curse the website for stealing my time. Please join me in fighting against time theft!

    Kitties in Cages

With all the spaying and neutering, why are there still so many unwanted pets in the world?

kitten-in-cageRecently, I finally convinced my boyfriend to get a cat for our home (yay!). I thought that would be the hard part. After walking by two pet adoption ‘fairs’, I realized just how many kitties need home. My heart goes out to the older ones that sit at the furthest edge of their cage facing away from people. How sad it is that they’ve spent their life in foster homes (at best) spending the weekend in cages. The little ones born just weeks prior are full of life tumbling with their brothers and sisters, unaware that they soon will be seperated to live a life of solitude possible never seeing another cat again.

This post is twofold. Why are there still so many cats out there? Seems that human beings have managed to drive most animals to extinction, but there are so many cats (and dogs) without a loving home. And how can people ever get rid of their pet for any reason…

Note. Please use petfinder.com to find a pet near you.

    NOT Waiting for Godot

Are you living paycheck to paycheck? You are not alone…

Join millions of Americans in their 20s, 30s and older with little or no savings, credit card debt up to wazoo and 100% reliance on their job (or their parents).

impatientWhile it seems that we have it harder than previous generations, it is mostly our fault. We are impatient and impulsive when it comes to spending (and other things). We are no longer willing to wait for things, we want them now (or better yet, yesterday). In fact, let’s just go get it on the web now (no lines to wait in!). And a few months later (did I really want it? Lets TOSS it).

While waiting seems to be SO 1.0. Some things are best left 1.0. Waiting is one of them.

and speaking of waiting, where is my package from Amazon I ordered yesterday?
